V1.5 Kit current limit
I noticed that the V1.5 kits are only rated for 3.5A continuous and 7A peak per cell. How did you get these numbers? What did you base them off of? What part is the limiting factor?
I had some spare time and hooked up a nickel strip to some test equipment. I used electrical banana grabbers and fed at most 6 amps through one connection point. 3-6A = 1 banana grabber, 9-12A = 2 banana grabbers, 15A = 3 banana grabbers. For each test, I let the metal heat up for 5 minutes so that it could reach an equilibrium point. I then used a thermal imaging camera to figure out how hot each plate got.
My data will have the following format:
Current through nickel plate | Temperature of metal at the middle | Temperature of metal at connection point (the hole)
0 A | 76 F | 76F
3 A | 79.5 F | 104 F
6 A | 85 F | 115 F
9 A | 86 F | 122 F
12 A | 106 F | 185 F
15 A | 121 F | 225 F
